UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, is offering a Protection Internship within the Community-Based Protection (CBP) unit.



UNHCR is a global organization dedicated to saving lives, protecting rights and building a better future for refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people.

Every year, millions of men, women and children are forced to flee their homes to escape conflict and persecution.

We are in over countries, using our expertise to protect and care for millions of people.



The internship will be within UNHCRs Community-based protection Unit, which sits within the Protection.

The CBP Unit is composed by 2 colleagues and the intern will support colleagues in the Unit.

As the member of the unit, the HR Intern will be involved in community-based protection regional strategy and priorities.

In addition, s/he will have to create and manage various tracking files for the Unit.

During the internship, the candidate will get hands-on protection experience and work in a multicultural team with colleagues from all over the world.

S/he will gain valuable experience with Gender based violence and child protection practices within UNHCR as well as localization agenda for forcibly displaced and stateless persons.

The Community based protection Intern will be working under the supervision of the Senior Community-based protection officer and will be supported by other protection colleagues.



The candidate should be dynamic and proactive team player, with a strong interest in Human Resources and refugee issues, to complete a six-month internship within UNHCRs HR team.



Duties and responsibilities :

Accountability to affected people

Supporting coordination and set up of UNHCR Help pages in country operations within the West and central Africa region, with regional team and HQ contribution: collect information from country operations and with technical support of HQ fill the help page template for each country operations.



Assist the CBP regional unit in setting up communication with communities channels that are inclusive and accessible to all forcibly displaced and stateless people, as well as to all UNHCR sectors of intervention

Conduct Desk review of country operation Accountability to Affected People strategy and support updating of relevant ones

Child protection / Gender Based Violence

Support data collection and analysis for the regional Newsletter: coordination with relevant operations, selection of relevant activities or stories

Support country operations to identify and document good practices: develop regional format for good practices

Following up on GBV and CP Regional Dashboards: assist updating of data, follow up with DIMA and country operations

Community-based protection

Support regional localization agenda: assist operations in Refugee led organization/Women led organization/Community based organization identification and mapping (questionnaires, dashboard designing with DIMA support etc.)

Participate in relevant internal and regional meetings: note taking for the unit

Undertake data analysis activities

Perform any other tasks assigned.



Essential minimum qualifications and Professional expérience required :

Be of Senegalese nationality, a national of a member state of CEDEAO, or have a work permit in Senegal,

Be available to work full-time for the duration of the internship.



Be a student in Law, International Law, Social Science, Humanitarian Law or related field,

Have excellent communication skills with strong interpersonal skills as well as be comfortable with working in an international and multicultural environment,

Be fluent in French and have good knowledge of English, with advanced writing and editing skills.



Have good experience using the Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Power BI).

Eligibility:

In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

Be graduated or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school programme from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO.



Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to work of the Organization.



An individual whose father, mother, son, daughter, brother or sister is a staff member of UNHCR, including a Temporary Appointment holder or a member of the Affiliate Workforce, is not eligible for an internship.



Location and Conditions :

The successful candidate will be based with the team in the Dakar, Senegal.

The internship is a six-month full-time role with 40 working hours per week, from Monday to Friday.



Please note that the terms of internship, as defined by UNHCR practice, include the payment of a Food and Local Transportation Allowance (FLTA).

In case the intern is sponsored by another source during the internship this will be deducted from the FLTA.

NB:
